President Harry S. Truman

Today we feature a nice portrait of Harry S. Truman. I think Harry Truman was a pretty good president. He had a saying, "The Buck Stops Here", meaning he did not try to pass blame to others. He called the shots, and he took responsibility for them. I think politicians today could learn a lot from old Harry.

It was on this day, April 12, in the year 1945 that Harry S. Truman became president, upon the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

  1. It is important to note that Truman made one of the biggest decisions I ever could imagine when he gave the order to bomb Heroshima and later Nagasaki with atomic bombs. While the devistation was terrible, the 250,ooo sholders saved certainly justified the action. The bombing, in my opinion, did not cause nuclear war because the Russians were busy with their development. We just got there first.

Can you imagine the anguish Truman went through to make that ultimate decision? The slogan "the buck stops here" took on a heavy meaning for him. It is truely lonely at the top.
