Each day we bring you one stunning little glimpse of history in the form of a historical photograph. Enjoy!
I have not idea who she is, but I love this photo. It looks like a portrait photo, but the pose is atypical for a portrait. She shows mucho moxie.

From my first look this A.M. I thought: an old time actress doing Charlotte Corday, the French assassin of Marat. That's why I speculated on Bernhardt (incorrectly). One last stab: is it the first actress (1914) to play Corday in the movies: Constance Crawley?
Dan and Donna are both incorrect.PJM
Not alice roosevelt.PJM

If not your mother, is this a relative? Yours or another contributor's?
Its 8:00 AM, Contest is Closed, I WIN!!!!!!The person is Annie Russell (1884-1936), actress who played in the play Mice and Men
This was a tough one! If you Google Annie Russell you will find many pictures of her, all more flattering than this one. There is always next week.....
ARGHHHHH!!!I spent HOURS yesterday looking at photos and bios of Victorian and Edwardian actresses, and her name NEVER came up.My husband kept asking me what I was doing. He thinks I have an online boyfriend.Haha
Ah, "SmartGirl 1953" I feel your pain! For several contests I had the same experience of spending a lot of time without success. A couple of weeks ago I found my solution: When the mystery photo is a formal portrait without contemporary context other than the person's clothing, I close my browser, step away from the computer, and then check back the next day or so. My Saturdays (and mental health) have been far more productive since then!
